How have societal trends during the Information Age been influenced by technological advances?
Societal trends have impacted technology in a huge way. It was said the most of today's children have never lived in a noncomputerized society. How crazy is that? I remember when computers were just coming out and no one I knew had them. We got our first family computer when I was about 8 years old and it was brand new. Compared to the computers of today, it would be like Atari and X-Box 360. The world is moving faster today and newer technology is needed to function. The book said that it is estimated that the amount of information in the world doubles every 900 days. Doubled in every 900 days? That is insane. Our society today is impatient and needs things now, so our technology needs to support that speed.
Mike, it is crazy how quickly technology changes.
ReplyDeleteI like your comment about how society wants information now. I am the same way but I think that kids also need to learn patience. When our internet has gone out before, my kids act like they are going to die, they feel disconnected with their friends. It makes me see how reliant our family has come on technology.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with the fact that kids today are so use to having things right here and right now. Although these advances are amazing they sometimes acts as a deterrent to students.
ReplyDeleteGreat Post. My son who is 3 is definitely on the way of being computer literate. He can access his web sites (kids PBS) and play games. Imagine what his future will look like when his attending SU:)
ReplyDeleteI also think the fact that some children lived in a noncomputerized world seems crazy. I also remember when my family got our first computer, I though it was the best thing ever but now it's outdated.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we didn't get a computer until I was like 14 or 15. The thing was not the greatest computer specimen, especially compared to what is available today. It is crazy how fast technology advances. There is always better and faster in today's technology-driven world. That's what the Information Age has led to.
ReplyDeleteNice comparision between the Atari and the XBox 360 and the computers of yesterday to the computers of today. I do not remember when my family bought our first computer, but I do remember I was young. It is amazing to think that the kids of today will not know a world where computers and other forms of technology did not exist. Most people today cannot even function properly without their cell phones being next to them, think of how it would be if they did not have computers to find information in a matter of seconds!
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy to think that information doubles every 900 days! So the stuff I'm learning now is basically going to be outdated by time in my 3rd year of teaching?!?!
ReplyDeleteEveryday technology is changing and the kids tomorrow have no fear with it. We must keep up with it or get run over.
